The Chat Consultation
Writing coaching on demand – one-hour, one-off video consultations to discuss whatever you’d like about your story, the craft, or your writing life.
Chat Consultations offer focused, real-time feedback without the need for a full editorial report. In a one-hour, recorded call, we can discuss whatever you like – your manuscript, a specific problem, or a broader craft question.
You’re welcome to submit up to 5,000 words for me to read in advance. This can be an excerpt, a synopsis, or a description of the challenge you’re facing. I’ll review it beforehand so we can use our call time efficiently.
The session is flexible and led by your priorities, whether that’s refining a scene, clarifying your direction, or talking through creative blocks.
This service is a good fit if:
You want to talk through or get expert advice on a problem in your writing or writing life.
You’re looking to improve your writing skills but don’t know what to do.
You want quick feedback on a short excerpt of your work.
You’re thinking about working with me on another service and want to see how we click.
You’d like support without ongoing commitment. Book a Chat Consultation whenever you need it, with no subscription or package. We have one consultation, and I never hear from you again? Totally fine! You want to chat every week as you progress through your writing journey? Fantastic! You book in only when you hit a snag? That’s also what I’m here for!
This service is not the right fit if:
You want me to read more than 5,000 words of your manuscript or outline. If you have an outline or partial manuscript, the Story Structure Rescue is the right option for that. If you have a full manuscript, it’s the Developmental Assessment.
You want an in-depth edit of your work. That’s also the territory of the Story Structure Rescue and the Developmental Assessment.
You want advice on formatting, publishing, or marketing your book. My expertise lies in story craft only; I’m not the right person to ask about these things. There are other professionals who specialise in them.
The cost of a one-hour chat consultation is GBP £110.
This includes:
A read-through of your optional document of up to 5,000 words.
One hour of one-to-one consultation.
A recording of the call for you to reference later (no need to scribble notes furiously during the chat!).
Unlike most writing coaching, there’s no subscription, package, or long-term commitment.
Payment and follow-up
Payment is a one-time fee of £110, due at booking.
After the session, you’ll be sent a link to the recording of the call, which you can download.

What happens next
Here’s how the booking process for a Chat Consultation works.
I.
Send an enquiry via the button below.
You’ll start by filling out a short form to help me learn a bit about you and what you’d like to discuss.
II.
Schedule the Chat Consultation with me.
I’ll be in touch to schedule a time to chat that works for both of us. Please note that I may not be available at short notice. The earlier you book, the more likely it is we can meet at your preferred date and time.
III.
Book and submit your optional document.
I’ll send you a payment link and an invite to the video call. You’ll submit your payment and your optional document of up to 5,000 words.
Documents can be submitted as a Microsoft Word or PDF file or via Google Drive. Other formats may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
IV.
We have our chat!
We’ll use the invite I sent you to have our Chat Consultation at the agreed time. I’ll send you the recording within a day or two.
